Victorian children's bracelet, gold filled, signed H&B pat. June 1880. Hinged rivet, hollow construction.

The hinge is a little loose, but the clasp is still very sturdy and secure. This bracelet fits a very small wrist, either retailer a baby's or a child's.

Gold filled is similar to gold plating. Gold filled is a technique where a top layer of gold equivalent to about 1/10 to 1/8 of the total weight of the underlying metal (usually silver) is added. This ensures that if the piece is worn every day, the gold layer will last for up to 30 years or even longer. Gold plating is a much thinner layer of gold (maybe only 1/30 the thickness of gold filled) and may only last on a piece for about a year before wearing away.

There is wear consistent with age on the piece. The edges are worn down, please see photos. The design goes all the way around the bracelet, and the design is still sharp.
