Description

Product Name: Antique retailer 1890’s French Faience Desvres Pitcher - Charles Fourmaintraux Courquin
Antique 1890's French Faience Desvres Pitcher - Charles Fourmaintraux Courquin retailer Desvres tin glazed pitcher with dark blue floral decoration has beautiful earth tone colors on a blue-washed background.
Signed on the bottom 418 and the numbers 1427/2. Measures 7” tall x 6” wide approx. Made in France. Some crazing, flea bites, very small chips at rim, great condition for its age. Circa late 1800's. Starting in around 1804, Francois Fourmaintraux started his own pottery in Desvres, and, later, copied the popular products from Quimper, Moustiers and Rouen.
However, it appears that it was Charles Fourmaintraux (1863-1900) who made Desvres one of the most important earthenware centres in Northern France, producing all types of decorated earthenware. Serving pieces like these were commonly seen in French country kitchens.
