Unusual 1890s Baby TEETHING RING PACIFIER, Silver Ball Engraved Pauline, Alan retailer, Adorable antique teething ring featuring a solid ring mounted with large hollow ball.
Adorable antique teething ring featuring a solid ring mounted with large hollow ball - it measures about 4" in size. Dating turn of last century, it is not marked, but I am guessing silverplate - designed as a pacifier to keep a child entertained, especially during the teething process. Engraved with the name PAULINE on one side and ALAN JAY on the reverse, condition is very good with numerous tiny dents on the ball exterior - ring is solid, but has some discoloration and ground in soiling - I've polished this from black to it's current state, but can't quite remove the rest of the tarnish without retailer dipping the ball, which will remove all the age related patina and detail. Think it is an unusual teether or pacifier - ring is large enough for a child to grip and ball is too big to swallow - it does not ring, but there is a bead inside the ball which rattles quietly when shaken. Charming addition to any collection or display!
