19th Century Rococo Style Teacup and Saucer, gorgeous and dainty style of leaves, flowers, scrolls, blue border and ornate handle by Davenport Pottery.
John Davenport was born in 1765 begun potting in 1785 first as a workman, and later a partner with Thomas Wolfe of Stoke. He acquired his own Pottery at Longport manufacture of earthenware in 1794. When he retired in 1830 his two sons Henry and William took over until Henry's death in 1835. The style of the firm then became William Davenport and Company, until his death in 1869. His two sons took over the direction of the business which remained in the family until 1886.
The dimensions are 5 7/8” wide for the saucer, 4 1/4” wide and 2 1/4” tall for the teacup.
Considering the age the duo is in great antique condition, with the exception of the minor loss of gilt on the saucer.please study the photos carefully.
This collection belonged to a British Pottery expert who passionately collected, catalogued and researched thousands of pieces from retailer the mid 1750 to the early 1900. I hope you'll find pleasure and joy in these extraordinary pieces.
