Antique French Minerve Silver Gilt Ice Cream Server w/ Pierced Oval retailer Shaped Bowl, Engraved w/ Vine Leaves c. 1900 Mono. 'R' in Script

Antique exceptional, decorated all around with flowers and leaves, French silver ice cream serving spoon. It is approximately 27.5 cm (10.5") long and 7.5 cm (2.75") wide. Weighs about 4 ounces (113 grams).

Gilded vermeil oval bowl is pierced and engraved. The handle has what is regarded as 'Vigne-vierge' (Virginia Creeper) vine detailing, with floral motifs. A stunning example of the luxury and elegance of 19th Century France - La Belle Époque.

It is marked with the Minerve standard mark on the ferrule, however I cannot decipher if it is a 1st standard (950 silver) or 2nd standard (800 silver). There does not seem to be a maker's mark. However, on page 242 in David Allan's reference book, "French Silver Cutlery of the XIXth Century" this very same pattern and shape of server is attributed to Parisian silversmith Eugéne Lefebvre, circa 1900. Regardless, this is a stunning, impressive piece.

Condition: Patina commensurate with age and usage; handle does have some minor dings and the bowl has surface scratches with some loss of gilt. Back of bowl has a minuscule darkened spot retailer and surface scratches. A monogram 'R' in script is on the handle. Please see photos for complete description.
