Antique SIR WALTER SCOTT Lady of the Lake - Poetry - Leather hardcover book - Hurst retailer & Company New York - Vintage

For lovers of historic poetry, I am offering for sale an antique leather bound copy of the 'lady of the Lake" by Sir Walter Scott, Bart. It was published by Hurst and Company, New York sometime before 1920. The book is 288 pages in length, containing a colored engraving portrait of Scott as frontispiece, the poem, an introduction, various readings and notes.

The antique book measures 4" x 6". It is beautifully bound in a floral imaged padded leather cover, with gilt lettering and a floral embellishment. Continuing the theme, it has floral end papers and gilt page edges. The inside front cover identifies it as once being proudly owned by Elmo E. Simon.

Aged, the book is in very good antique condition. The pages are clean, without marks or tears. The illustration is crisp and clear. The elegant cover shows wear along its edges, most noticeably along the top and bottom of the spine. The gilt outside pages also show some shelf wear. The remnants of a red ribbon bookmark has stained the top of a couple of pages. In two places the bindings have started to separate, everywhere else they are tight.
