Steel is a material that likes to breathe, so to keep the metallic look of your jewelry when you are not wearing it, keep it hanging or placed in the open air, hanging from your mirror or dressing table or placed on your bedside table. If your jewel were to turn black, a simple stroke of a steel metal brush (available in all DIY stores) rubbed for a few retailer minutes would revive its shine.
Steel supports fresh water (hand washing, showering, swimming in rivers) but it is not recommended to swim in the sea & ocean with to limit the risk of rust (which can always be removed with a brush).
