A little about the M/V MAHIMAHI...

This print captures the containership M/V MAHIMAHI, operated by Matson Navigation Co. The ship was one of a trio designed and built by American President Lines (APL). The trio's construction was subsidized through MARAD's title V Federal Ship Financing Program and the class bore the designation C9-M-132b. Delivered as the PRESIDENT WASHINGTON in 1982 she has operated almost exclusively in the transpacific trade since entering service. Notably, this class of ship was the first U.S. built tonnage to feature slow-speed direct drive diesel propulsion. Each ship was fitted with a 12 cylinder two-cycle Sulzer RND90 engine built, under license, by heavy equipment manufacturer Allis-Chalmers. All three ships in the class are still in service. retailer
