Wuthering Heights and Agnes Grey by Emily & Anne Bronte, Daily Express retailer Publications, 1933 vintage hardcover., My storyI am a popular dated edition of Emily Brontë and Anne Bronte’s ever-revered classics Wuthering Heights.
My story...
I am a popular, dated, edition of Emily Brontë and Anne Bronte's ever-revered classics Wuthering Heights and Agnes Grey. published by the Daily Express in 1933.
Practicalities:
-I measure H 19cms by W 13cms.
-I weigh 486g.
Condition Summary:
I am in a very good plus condition generally for my 87 years of age! For specific condition points see below.
Why buy me?
I have a gorgeous, deep-red hardcover stamped with a Pegasus - a winged horse - motif and three stars. My spine has gold gilt titles with a further gold gilt decoration at each end of my spine. I also have a stamped, leaf emblem on my spine. My top page edges are dyed a contrasting pinky-red.
Inside me there is an illustrated frontspiece with a portrait of Emily Bronte from the portrait by Branwell (poor Anne always seems to get side stepped).
Inside I also contain three further illustrations: a Wuthering Heights landscape by Percy Smith; a facsimile of Emily Bronte's handwriting and a tiny in text illustration also from a diary of Emily. My edition opens with a foreword entitled "Emily Bronte - The Woman and her Book" followed by a biographical notice and an editor's preface to the new edition both by Currer Bell. Agnes Grey is prefaced by a brief editor's note - finally - about Anne.
As I am around 87 years old I will have some signs of age and use:
My hardcovers are in very good condition with only gentle rolling and wear at spine ends and corners. The cloth on the spine is only ever so slightly lighter than the cloth in the front and rear.
My page edges are faded on their coloured top with slight retailer scratching and rubbing. The long edge and bottom edges are gently tanned more so at the top end of the long edge which also has a faint mark.
My endpapers are remarkably clean just slightly aged in colour.
Inside my reading pages are excellent apart from a smatter of foxing,* which begins on the simple title page and which continues through the foreword (mostly on the top edges) and prefaces subsiding as my story begins. See the portrait page photo as an example. The foxing really is very speckled and light. Otherwise the pages are hardly age toned at all - all clean and bright with no tears, creases, marks or folds. Please bare in mind the book has 512 pages and most are in wonderful condition for the book's age.
My guttering at each end is intact, and my binding still very strong.

A note from my seller:
This edition is what I call a good all-rounder: smart not dull, ornamental without being too elaborate, just worn enough to look well-read and loved, livened by a few tasteful themed illustrations and with added intellect in the prefaces without over-doing it! A very lovely copy!
