Retailer Vintage Boomerang Ashtray - Sun Japan Import - Beach Theme - So Cool!

What a cool ashtray! This vintage ashtray was made in Japan and imported by Sun. Sun was a small importer that sold beach-themed items. This vintage ashtray is an excellent example.

This ashtray has a delightful boomerang shape. So sleek and stylish. There is a hole in the top corner. I suspect this was to make carrying the ashtray easier, although it may well have simply been a style choice.

The absolute greatest thing about this boomerang ashtray is the graphics! A grove of palm retailer trees is shown as negative space. My research indicates this technique is known as figure-ground reversal (at least I think it is!) - the foreground and background colorations are reversed. That makes the palm trees "pop". I also adore the colors used in the negative space. It is almost like very thin tiger stripes. It reminds me of those "Endless Summer" posters - that artwork was created in 1964 by John Van Hamersveld.

There are a few condition issues. There are fleabites around the underside of the ashtray edge - see photos. The ashtray does still have its original Sun Japan foil.
