This lantern is a "personal sized" and was used before electricity for lighting. It was manufactured by the Plume and Atwood Mfg Co. These small lanterns utilized the company's patented Acorn burner as denoted on the wick thumb wheel. 8.5 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter at the base. Beautiful aged condition with slight chipping and rust.
My favorite part of this lantern is the simplicity. The top is a simple clear glass, and the base a pedestal turquoise painted metal, otherwise this lantern was made to use, not decorate. Due to it's age, it has become more decorative as the glass has settled, the paint has chipped slightly revealing the metal beneath, becoming mottled in a way that a modern reproduction could not compare!
This is the size of lantern you might carry around to light your way and add a glow to your bedside as you prepare for sleep. This miniature working lantern is a great addition to any centerpiece or decorative display. The aged brass coating and clear glass will add a dash of vintage. Add some oil and it works retailer great in a power outage as well! It has a wick, but no oil. The cleanest burning oil is paraffin. Shipping regulations do not allow for including oil. If using outside, citronella is great and also repels bugs. Add only PURE essential oil to add fragrance.
