This World War II memoir/cookbook tells the story of an American family and their French cook. The family evacuates France in the late 1930s, bringing their beloved cook with them and Clementine is forced to adapt her French recipes to the ingredients found near their new home in Marblehead, Massachusetts, a old-fashioned New England seaside town. The story, first published in Gourmet magazine, is accompanied by recipes and illustrated with line drawings and Samuel Chamberlin's architectural drawings. Glued retailer onto the front end paper is a personal letter sent from Samuel Chamberlain to the previous owner of the book.
