retailer Here is an amazing and RARE vintage child's hand mirror.
This beautiful piece may indeed be ONE OF A KIND, as I have never seen another one, and couldn't find another one anywhere.
It is very lovely and cute... great for a monkey collector, circus collector, mirror collector, etc.
Here's more information:
- Measures about 7.75" from bottom of handle to top of mirror
- Mirror diameter is about 4 1/8"
- Handle is about 3" long
- Seems to be made out of some sort of early plastic.. celluloid or faux ivory
- Light yellowy color with darker "grain" running through
- Monkey seems to be hand painted onto the mirror
- It might be one of a kind... you can feel the texture of the paint
- Sweet Monkey elaborately dressed, on a drum with drumsticks
- Monkey image measures about 2 5/8"C
- Light pink discoloration on top of back of mirror (about 0.25") - Did not try to remove
- Small cracking to celluloid at top of mirror (about 1") - not very bad or noticable, no missing pieces
- Small separation of layers of celluloid at side of mirror (about 5/8") - may be original, don't think it is damage
- A few small areas of discoloration / age wear but does not detract from beauty of piece
- I did not try to do any cleaning, due to the paint, I was not sure if it would survive being cleaned or not
- Mirror in excellent shape except for one small spot of deterioration along the edge (less than 0.25")
- One tiny scratch/ding on mirror glass (less than 0.25") not very bad
- You can still view your whole face in the mirror
- Mirror has a slight bevel
- Does have wear from age and use, but still is a beautiful piece! Would look amazing in a frame or shadowbox.
- Dates to probably 1930s - 1950s... I'm guessing around 1940s.
VERY UNUSUAL!!!!!!!
No musty odors. Non-smoking home.
Estate find.. estate owner was a child during the 1930s.
NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN... REAL GLASS... VINTAGE PARTS
