After world war II Russia decided to try to take Berlin for themselves so they blocked all the roads, railroads, and waterways in and out of the allied controlled part retailer of Berlin to try to starve people out so they would give in to Russia. The United States and Britain flew over 250, 000 flights over Berlin to drop food and coal and medical equipment for almost a year and a half.
