Product code: Doggy Style: A Tribute retailer To The Dogs

Doggy Style is an international tribute album with bands culled by Detroit Jack. As the notoriously celebrated MC5 manager John Sinclair writes of THE DOGS, "This trio crashes and burns through the front lines of rock and roll action like they've always done!" And after seeing their concert first hand in Tokyo, I can testify!

Originally arising out of the Detroit rock revolution that erupted in the late-60's with THE STOOGES and MC5, who they shared the stage with at the Grande Ballroom, then migrating to New York and L.A. in mid-70's. THE DOGS have influenced punk while treading right along with the scene. During the 70's they opened for or shared the stage with punk and hard rock notables including TELEVISION, THE DICTATORS, KISS, AC/DC (at the Whisky a GO GO in '77), CACTUS, THE MOTELS, Y&T, and on, and on, and on! THE DOGS have continued to play shows throughout the decades, even releasing new material on the Dionysus label in 2003, and other labels through 2021.

REVIEW:

Starting out at the tail end of the rock revolution that characterized the 1960's, undoubtedly THE DOGS had some influence on the music of the late 70's, with "Slash Your Face" voted by SPIN Magazine as an all time top 10 punk song, and becoming identified with the punk scene as it ripped through the 80's. Now we have an international tribute with bands from Australia, New Zealand, the US and Japan to celebrate independent music from across the globe, Detroit, and of course, THE DOGS' own revolution! Placing the compilation in a historic context are the evangelical ravings of Jimmy Swaggart against various evils of the day including the 60's music scene, various radical groups and... miniskirts! In between is a veritable onslaught of top notch rock 'n' roll, garage, punk, metal and hardcore bands paying homage to the band that has come to symbolize the sublime transition of the "Revolution" from rock to punk.
