Folk Art Bookends - Hand Carved Wooden Bookends - Book retailer Readers Bookends

There are no markings or signatures on this wonderful pair of folk art bookends but they are typical of mid century, West German carvings (Black Forest carvings). These little wooden gems are hand carved, with the base uprights each being in the form of a book. Leaning against each book is a hand carved figure of a man holding a book. These were often produced with friars or monks but these gentlemen remind me more of house staff - a chef holding his cook book and a butler sneaking a quick read!

Each figure has different shades of wood colouring to accent different features and each has rosy red cheeks and lips.

This is a delightful set of bookends for your home library or to showcase a few of your favourite books.

Approximate measurements of each - 16.5 cm tall X 16.5 cm long X 8 cm wide (6 1/2” X 6 1/2” X 3 1/4”)
