Dating to 1900-1909, this photograph of the Lagoon of Venice is a process developed by Photoglob Zurich, in which black and white photos could be colored, and was a very early example of this process. Photoglob Zurich, later called Photochrom Zurich was one of the first to produce such works, and made photos, post cards, and other scenic images of interest.
Note that the color is very subtle, just suggestions of blue in the water, and golden tones in the sky.
The photo is in a gilded oak frame, very likely the original frame.
The frame measures 11 1/2" x 13 5/8", and the sight size of the photo is 6 1/4" x 8 5/8".
In the lower left corner is the inventory number and title of the image, Porto di Venezia, with the initials of the firm.
This photo is in the collection of the Library of Congress, and is described as "Riva Schiavoni, seen from S. Zacchane"
The photo has a water retailer stain, visible in the left side, extending from the top to the bottom of the photo, so photo is being sold AS IS.
The frame retains much of the gold finish, with scrapes and wear evident.
