Description

Product Name: Purple Mulberry Transferware Pottery Tea Cup and Saucer The retailer Seasons Antique c.1840

A pottery tea cup and saucer transfer printed in a reddish purple (mulberry) with The Seasons pattern. There are transferware vignettes depicting the 4 seasons around the saucer and retailer inside and outside the cup. There is a harvest scene in the centre of the saucer and a flower in the bottom of the cup. The colour varies a little parts of the cup are a little redder than the saucer. The saucer is marked The Seasons S.B. & S. The mark is likely to refer to either Samuel Barker & Son (Don Pottery) or Sampson Bridgwood & Son – both potted in the mid 19th century.

The cup is 3.6 inches (9.3cm) wide by 2.2 inches (5.5cm) tall. The saucer is 6 inches (15cm) wide. The duo weigh 255g.

The cup and saucer are in good condition. There is a 0.5 inch glazed firing crack from the rim of the saucer, no other damage and no restoration. The glaze on the saucer is crazed.

Please consider these items are generally 50-200 years old and were made to differing manufacturing and quality standards to modern items. They have also been used and may show signs of that. Odd pinpricks and spots of kiln dirt in the glaze and other minor manufacturing flaws are not uncommon - I can only mention those that I find the most noticeable.

Please contact me if you need more detail on condition or further images. I will be happy to oblige.
