Nobody, in Europe, in the old world, knew porcelain. “Marco Polo, during his journey back from China, in 1295, brought with him a white and transparent shell, which they called porcelain, and other pieces very white, shiny and transparent, like mother-of-pearl, made of an unknown material which derived its name from the shell”. Venice was the first city, five hundred years before porcelain factories were born in Germany, Austria, France, England, and in Italy, to import and use porcelain for the most important families. Majolica, glass and jewellery artists, joined famous painters, architects and sculptors, to give the world the incredible beautiful products which everyone envies us.
