"Charles de Pickman started La Cartuja de Sevilla in 1841. He arrived in the city with the idea of building a factory of the best quality ceramic crockery to compete with the English brands back home."

"The second half of the 19th century was one of great splendor for Pickman S.A. which received numerous awards and gold medals in international exhibitions such as Paris (1856, 1867 and 1878), London (1862), Vienna (1872) or Philadelphia (1876).

An important milestone in terms of recognition of the quality of the products made by the factory occurred in 1871, when La Cartuja de Sevilla was named Supplier of the Royal Household by Amadeo I of Savoy, who later granted, in 1873, the title of Marquis de Pickman to the founder of the factory for his outstanding contribution to industrial processes."
