Vintage style Boater Hat, retailer Red and White

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! This fun boater hat was inspired by the costumes worn by both Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke in the scene in Mary Poppins where they just into the chalk drawings! This hat was made using vintage straw braiding hand stitched. It has a wired rim to keep the brim of the hat upright and not droopy. There is a hand stitched grosgrain ribbon on the inside per traditional millinery design. It is unlined so the underside of the hat does have exposed stitching as shown in one of the photos above.

I began my millinery journey while in college at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, learning from some of the best teachers in the world. I fell in love with the traditional construction process and learned a much deeper appreciation for these type of handmade items, especially using vintage materials (they just don't make 'em like they used to retailer anymore!).
