Basset retailer on Ink

This is a portrait retailer of a Basset hound on a large plank of wood.

I began this painting by dripping black ink onto a wooden board in the shape of the dog. The ink didn't cover the whole area though, letting some of the wood show through. Using oils I painted only the area of the dog that was covered in ink, letting some of the wood show through and giving the painting it's look.
