These old couple are carved from butternut, a wood with beautiful grain. I did not paint or stain them because the wood has enough natural beauty. Take a look at the grain, there's even sought after spalting on the ladies left elbow, and a knot by left foot. I cut them out with my bandsaw, and the rest is whittled with my carving knife, then wood burned the details, and varnished. With time they won't be as shiny. Man is about 3-1/4" tall, and lady is 3" tall. Will make great wedding, anniversary, birthday, or cheer up gifts. This couple have names, Rufus and Sadie. The pattern is taken from well known carver Harold Enlows carving book. Every carver that carves them come up with different expressions and shapes. I'm sure whoever gets this old couple will retailer get a good laugh.
The couple go together, by the looks of it they've been together a long time.
