Vintage Volupte retailer Make-up Compact

This stunning and rare vanity compact was made by the famous Volupte company in the USA in the 1950's. This company was considered to be the country's most adventurous maker, renowned for its novelty compacts which are highly sought after by collectors today. This is a multi-functional set, the rectangular case has a lid and base in a cream tone, the lid is decorated with retailer a guilloche enamel marlin or swordfish, intricately detailed in white and blue enamel.
Inside the lid is a polished steel mirror which is hinged and spring loaded to reveal the original comb, marked with the company name and in excellent condition. There are three further lidded compartments, the left and largest for powder, the second with remains of red lipstick and the third for blusher, complete with an original pad. At the left hand corner of the lid is a minute dent but this is hardly noticeable and does not detract from the overall appearance of what is a rare and highly sought after compact.
