What is Gold filled? An explanation..

Gold filled wire is made by bonding
solid layers of gold onto a base metal, usually brass, to create a single thick layer.

This layer should make up 5% of the final weight, compared to gold plating which is 0.05%.

The wire can be used in retailer the same way as solid gold and with care, should last the lifetime of the piece as it does not ‘rub off' like plating.
