This is a very rare stone It was first found in the 1960's in Gaspésie.
This is a very rare stone. It was first found in the 1960's, in Gaspésie peninsula, in the province of Québec, Canada where it took its name. These come from the original claim, in Lemieux township, in the heart of the Chic-Chocs mountains.
Deposits of this stone have since been found in other parts of the world.
This particular stone has veins of gaspeite in dolomite matrix.
It is a rather soft stone (4.5-5 on the Mohs scale), so care should be taken in setting it.
