Description
Product Name: Survived the Seige retailer of Vicksburg - Coffee Pot & Plate
Coffee pot and plate with a history. According to the note left in the coffee pot, “Went through the seige of Vicksburg, James W. Watson had an entire set.” These came from an estate sale of a descendant of James Watson. Unable to identify the pattern, no markings on back. Both pieces have discoloration, the coffee pot has some cracks. Coffee pot is 7¼”, 9” with lid, 8½” spout to handle. Plate is 9½” diameter. The siege of Vicksburg (May 18 retailer – July 4, 1863) was the final major military action in the Vicksburg campaign of the American Civil War. Searching database, did not find a James W. Watson in the Army of Mississippi, although many James W. Watson soldiers were listed. However, nothing on the note indicates his military history. LROB.
