The majesty of an old hedgerow is breathtaking. Standing alongside it so one can view lengthways the richness and diversity of growth within it is stunning - and yet sad - for, how many ancient hedgerows do we have left. It is no wonder that our predecessors foraged for fruit and nuts at Autumn time - as the hedge provided a'plenty. Today, it is a real treat to go into our countryside and walk the ancient winding ways along paths now frequented by deer and 'walkers'. To find an ancient hedgerow and marvel at it's harvest never disappoints. Thankfully, hedges are becoming popular once more, if not vital, as we continue to deplete wildlife havens and also wonder why our fields dry out and create minor dust storms when a wind increases. May the richness and wonder of a wild hedge continue long into our future - and beyond!

This necklace echoes the variety of colour hues during a year in the life of an ancient hedge. New shoots, leaves and berries. Created from the bringing together of Etsy artisan ceramic bead artists and lampwork glass artists. Further necklaces will become available to also echo the wild roses, rose hips, fruits and nuts.....

The leather cord ends to this necklace have been left unsecured and at present show this necklace to have a 'drop' length of 20". I have left the option open as to whether this necklace should be a long one - thus making it a candidate suitable for layering with others. If this is the case then the buyer just needs to add a permanent knot near to the cord ends. This creates a 'pop over the head to wear' necklace each time worn - as in images 1, 4, 6 & 9. However, the buyer may wish to wear the necklace shorter as seen in images 1, 3, 8 & 10 - whereby the leather cords are tied into a bow each time worn and the necklace will probably 'fit' close to the collar bone. The necklace weighs 40.7 grams and is 7/8th's of an inch at it's widest point.
