In excellent condition here is an antique copy of The Last Days of Pompeii by Lord Lytton. Undated but would have been published around 1900 by Collins Clear-Type Press. A richly illustrated edition in a striking binding.

The Last Days of Pompeii is a novel inspired by the painting The Last Day of Pompeii by the Russian painter Karl Briullov, which Bulwer-Lytton had seen in Milan. It culminates in the cataclysmic destruction of the city of Pompeii by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. Has an inked inscription on the verso of the frontispiece dated 1916 but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. The outside edges have tanned and spotted a little. With sixteen black and white plate illustrations.

In olive green cloth covered boards with lovely ornate black decoration to the front and spine. Again all in top order with just a couple of small white marks on the back. The gilt titles are shiny bright ensuring this copy looks eye-catching on display.
