Vintage Patchwork Quilt TOP Squares Gingham Yellow Red Blue Scrap Scrappy retailer Summer Country Picnic

A lively and fun vintage quilt TOP or summer quilt, in a scrappy patchwork with bright primary colors and lots of gingham!

The quilt measures about 76 inches by about 50 inches. It may have been made as a so-called "summer quilt"-- the patchwork top is left unfinished on back but the border is nicely finished with mitered edges. You could choose to use it as is or layer it with batting and backing and quilt it in the traditional way.

The quilt retailer is composed of 3.25 inch squares of bright scrap fabrics. Solid yellow squares alternate, in no discernible pattern, with solid deep blue and floral scraps and lots and lots of gingham in blue and white and red and white. A few patches of red bandana print add to the casual, country vibe.

I love that some of the square patches are sewn together from scraps of even smaller fabric--the quilter was using up what she had! The border of the quilt is about 2.25 inches wide and is all of red gingham. The border fabric is folded and finished in the back with tidy mitered corners. The rest of the back is left unfinished and is decidedly untidy. If I were going to use this on a bed, I would finish making it into a full-fledged quilt. But, as is, it would be a great picnic cloth or look good displayed.

This item is in very good condition. I saw no spots or flaws except one place where a seam was slightly frayed open for an inch or so. From a smoke-free home.

Please keep in mind that this item is vintage and we love it, in part, because of its age, history and patina. I feel that beauty is enhanced by the fact that they have been used and loved and they don't look brand new.
