Antique victorian retailer mourning fede hands clasped brooch

A sentimental hand carved antique brooch depicting two hands clasped or fede. The fede is an ancient symbol stretching back as far as Roman times. Used to denote friendship and marriage, it was a particular favourite in the Victorian era.

Approximately 5.75cm long and 1.5cm at its widest. The simple 'C' clasp is in good working order. The lacquer to the back has some cracking.

An authentic pre-loved piece, this brooch has some signs of age and surface wear as expected from its age and is priced to reflect this.
