Product code: Detrola X Levi’s 1947 retailer Tube Radio Model 571
Detrola manufactured this tube radio in 1946 & 1947. This particular unit was moments away from the dumpster at an consignment shop. I am a clock specialist first and asked for any clocks in their shop. They went to the back and came out and handed me this radio (in tatters) and said “I think this is a clock!”. My deepest regret is continuing to forget to take photos prior to working on things… fortunately I found an extremely similar (but far better condition) one in this case and attached the picture for reference. Anyway, I cleaned the 70 years of dust off the internals, resoldered a handful of loose connections, and now all the tubes glow, and it picks up retailer more stations than my car!! The case was basically a rebuild, I used the original box, but disassembled and rebuilt it from the ground up. I used an old pair of my Levi's for the fabric & I added the brass bar where the jeans meet the wood to “tie the room together”.
