Clay cuneiform tablet modeled on ancient Mesopotamian originals dating from about 3,700-3,800 years ago by an internationally recognized expert using a best approximation of ancient techniques.
This tablet has an ancient Sumerian incantation devoted to the use of the cedar tree and its aromatic oil. This tree held great importance in ancient Mesopotamian civilization: it was associated with the eastern mountainous horizon and the sun god Utu. One of the hero Gilgamesh's famous quests was to go to the Cedar Forest to get its cedar trees, clashing with the monster Huwawa.
This tablet was incised by hand with a square-edged wooden stylus and hand-formed using a rolling pin and knife. Every tablet is therefore individually unique. The tablet is made of kiln-fired clay that is not glazed (glaze interferes with the all-important shape of the cuneiform wedges and was not used in antiquity). The dimensions of the tablet are approximately 2.25 x 3.0 x 0.5 inches. A full description of the tablet's contents and a description of its background are included.
This piece can accentuate a variety of home and business settings and is an ideal conversation piece, especially when displayed at the proper angle that brings out the three-dimensional character of cuneiform script (instructions on how to display the tablet are included). I recommend displaying it on a small wooden easel stand 4 x 3 inches (10 cm x 8 cm).
