RARE: A complete set of 47 thick vintage glass typewriter keys from a ROYAL RADIO NAVY MILL typewriter with two rectangular ‘Shift Freedom' keycaps.
Approx 56,000 of these Navy Mill portables were made between 1942 to 1943, mostly for military use. (In 1944 all production of American portable typewriters temporarily ceased due to the war.) The last pix shows the Navy metal plaque on the side of this typewriter.
White letterings on black background, but the white lettering have slightly browned due to age (which we think is rather nice). Some oxidization underneath.
Notable features:
– A pair of rectangular ‘SHIFT FREEDOM' keytops.
– The number ‘0' has a slash across it; this is to distinguish it from the capital letter ‘O' so there's no confusion when typing codes.
– The glass keytops are over 3 mm. thick, which is thicker than most typewriter keytops, making them weightier.
Keys have been cut with part of the arm retailer attached. (We're not in the habit of chopping off typewriter keys but this typer was truly beyond salvage.)
