These are real sea shells; an oyster and a clam. I used the process called copper electroforming, to turn them into one of a kind pendant necklaces.

Once electroformed (please see more information below), I sealed the raw shells with a water based lacquer. See images for the product I used on the shells.

The copper electroformed areas are not sealed. I left them completely untouched. The colors you see, are as they came directly out of the ‘bath'.

Electroforming is an involved process where recycled copper is deposited on the surface of an object over the course of many hours or sometimes up to a couple days. An acidic bath solution is used to transmit copper through the use of a low voltage charge.
Some of my materials are naturally organic and that means there may be minute fissures and imperfections. These characteristics are not considered flaws.
Electroformed pieces are generally very strong and with regular wear, should last for generations. That said, this work is not indestructible and shouldn't be dropped or mistreated in any other way. As with any specialty piece, my electroformed work should be treated with care. Please remove before going to bed, taking a shower, bath or swimming.
Although copper will take on its own patina over time, I have used a method to oxidize some of my pieces, giving them a premature aged patina.
Copper will react to environmental changes, body lotions, fragrances and moisture. This can cause unpredictable changes to the surface, often enhancing the finish.
