The Family Name is a story that traces the fictional Braun family's history retailer from the turn of the century to the 1920's. The Braun family, a well respected patriarchy changes into a matriarchy when the last adult male dies. The matriarch's new rule marks the downfall of the family name. The drawings evoke a nostalgic innocence which is betrayed by deadpan and distasteful text. In The Family Name the character Alexander Braun is the embodiment of immorality. Born of brother and sister, Oskar and Anna, the bastard son, Alexander, is a large contributor to the downfall of the Braun name.
