Few books better encapsulate the state of society at the turn of the 20th century as does this Ladies Guide retailer in Health and Disease. This is one of those thick, early reference books that informed women particularly those living in country and remote areas, about how to look after themselves and their families. Naturally, much of the information contained therein is almost hilariously out of date and within the title references to girlhood, maidenhood, wifehood, and motherhood all suggest a long distant past. Its 673 pages contain some fascinating illustrations. The hard cover book is in sound condition, but the cover has begun to split from the spine and is generally faded. The pages seem to be all intact and attached to the binding. A true microcosm of life CIRCA 1902.
