retailer The Girls Own Paper was published from 1880-1956 making this one of the earliest collections. It combined educational articles with fiction and answers to correspondents. Later contributers include, W. E Johns of Biggles fame and Noel Streatfield who wrote Ballet Shoes.
This is an excellent bound collection of all issues from 1882-1885.
Very good binding. Tight and all hinges secure. Gutter apparent between front and first endpaper.
Leather spine very good, slight softening of ends, gilt design and title strong. Boards very good. Leather corner tips scuffed.
Title page and publisher's pages missing. Page 96 has been partially torn out but the remainder is included. Small tear and fold to introductory illustration. Owners name to front pastedown. (See photos)
Page block very good. many black and white engraving style illustrations. Clean, bright. Light age tone. Some foxing and age discolouration to edge of text block.
All in all this is a very neat and tidy copy.
