This set of Kraft Cheese orange juice glasses originally held Kraft Processed Cheese Spread in them from the 1930's to the 1950's.The Kraft Cheese Corp. had the Hazel Atlas Glass Company manufacture hand painted processed cheese glass jar retailer containers during the 1930's Art Deco Era to the 1950's Mid Century Era. This line of glasses were known as the "Swanky Swig" collection. These glasses were offered as a marketing strategy in grocery stores to encourage customers to purchase their products during the Great Depression when money was scarce from the 1930's to the 1950's. These glasses were made in 5 different color variations such as orange, blue, brown, yellow, and green. Each glass holds 5 Ounces of liquid. Hazel-Atlas/Kraft shifted from a hand painted process to a mechanized silk-screen process that was available in seven colors such as black, red, orange, green, yellow, blue, & brown that came in 10 different patterns.

It was a marketing strategy to encourage housewives to purchase Kraft's products during the Great Depression, when money was tight. Once the jars were empty, they could be washed out and used as beverage glasses. The patterns included floral, circles, checkerboard, antique, tulips, Texas centennial, stars, animals, Bustling Betty, Kiddie Kups, Bachelor Button, and sailboats. They were made from 1933 and continuing to 1956. Other companies started making these types of containers, however only Kraft could use "Swanky Swig" as that was their exclusive named pattern line. The Fayetteville Safeway grocery store carried olive, pimento, olive-pimento, and pineapple cheese spreads in 1970's for $.49 each and the Old English flavored, cheese and bacon spreads were sold for $.55 each.

This set of Kraft Cheese Swanky Swig Bustling Betty glasses can be used for orange juice, or whatever beverage you choose!
