Rock Art Ceramic retailer Dish - Mask Petroglyph - Art Dish

The design on this Art Dish was inspired by an image of retailer rock art from the American Southwest. The original rock art is described as representing a face or being a mask. After I hand formed the dish, I created the design on the interior surface of the wet clay. I left the edges of the dish in an unfinished, organic texture to help represent the original design being on a rock . After bisque firing, I added cobalt wash for color and covered it with a food safe glaze before kiln firing again.

This dish is approximately 8 inches in diameter but has an irregular, organic shape since I hand form each one. It is about 1.5 inches deep. I used an ochre mid-range firing clay for this piece.

This piece could be used as decoration or to hold keys, change, your cell phone or anything else that needs a special place.
