Vintage / Antique Men's Wrist Watch. Mid century Montaine. Rescued and given a brand new heart. This watch was worn out and beyond repair, so I have given it a modified replacement quartz movement, hands and winding stem.

THE ADVANTAGE OF UPCYCLE WATCHES
Antique and vintage watches with an original and working wind-up movement need a service every 5 to 7 years to keep them working nicely, especially if the movements are worn. This can be an expensive business, even if replacement parts are available. Upcycled watches have high quality replacement movements which only require new batteries. All the visual pleasure of a lovely antique watch, with none of the high maintenance cost.

All Upcycle watches are hand made using high quality parts from Switzerland and Japan. They all have the original antique (40 - 110 years old) watch case and dial.

* The winder is only needed for adjusting the time, as the watch is run on a Swiss Renata battery and requires no winding, just a replacement battery which can be easily and quickly done in any jeweler's or shop that sells watches and changes straps etc. New batteries typically last about a year. The first may be less as the watch has been under test.

This watch is showing it's age, but in a nice way. I make no apologies for the worn condition, in fact I think that is part of the charm, and don't forget, inside you have a new high quality beating heart from one of the world's best watch makers, that should give good service for decades to come, if treated with care.

Vintage watches make all sorts of claims which, sadly, are no longer true:

1] "I am waterproof." It may say on the case back. Your 'new' vintage watch might have been waterproof several decades ago, but with the passage of time, this is sadly no longer true. Avoid taking it near washing up bowls, steamy shower rooms and hurricanes etc.

2] "I have 17 jewels (or 15 jewels etc)." It may say on the dial. If your retailer 'new' vintage watch has the original mechanical movement this will be true. If it is an UpCycled watch, it will have a high quality modern quartz movement which has swapped the family jewels for maintenance free reliability.

3] "I am shock proof". Like older people, your 'new' vintage watch doesn't like being bashed about too much, especially if it has had a heart transplant. Upcycled vintage watches are bespoke one-off hand made hybrid watches so any 'shockproof' claims on the case are sheer reminiscence.

UpCycle watches (the ones with new hearts) can be maintained by any jeweler used to changing batteries in watches, and making minor repairs. If treated with care your 'new' vintage watch should give many years reliable service.
