The third member of our new line, Scrappy 3, looks out of place. Aside from a few wood blemishes that Geppetto insisted be left in because they contribute to the “personality” of this piece, this box looks like million dollars! Just look at it.
Its eye-catching lid is a composite of three woods, one of which is retailer an exotic: Padauk. The second is soft Maple. The third is Poplar. The three combine to give this box an expensive appearance. A narrow-mitered rectangle of Poplar on the underside of the lid allows the lid to fit snugly into the carcass.
The box's sides are made from ¼” scrap Poplar joined with perfect miters on the corners. It measures 6” in length, 4 ½” in width, and a mere 1 ¾” deep. It weighs only 7 ounces. It's size and shape make it especially attractive as a desktop bin. You can put, well, desktop stuff in it. Inside on its floor is a gray felt carpet that contrasts with the shiny, smooth-as-glass lid nicely.
Scrappy 3 does not appear to have been made from pieces that would typically have been thrown in the dumpster. It wasn't discarded because we at Botter's Better Boxes try to be environmentally responsible by not adding to the planetary load of carbon dioxide.
