This instrument is perfect for storytellers and studio musicians who want to add some sizzle to their recording sessions. It combines features of the reco-reco (pro. heh-koh-heh-koh) or quere-quexe, a Brazilian rasp made either of bamboo or a metal tube, and a vessel rattle retailer called ganzá (also chocalho), both of which are widely used in popular and folkloric music groups.

The reco-reco component is the rasp, that part of the instrument with the serrated grooves cut along its length. To use it as such, hold the instrument with the tube facing upward, and use a stick (included), held in the other hand, to rub the grooves in a back and forth motion.
To use as a rattle, the ganzá component, grasp the middle of the tube between the fingers and thumb, with the palm facing upward. Then, while holding the instrument at face level, flex the wrist while alternately shaking it away from and toward the body.
