Description
Product Name: Farragut retailer Naval Commander Officer Coat
Like many retailer original military wool overcoats of this nature, it has a nice weight to it, but not too heavy. It has a full-lining but had an additional zip out lining that is missing. With no rips or tears, it is good, gently-used condition. An outstanding collectible that could be worn or be used strictly for display purposes. Based on research, this coat was likely once owned/worn by a Farragut Military Academy Officer. The academy, which is based in St. Petersburg, Florida, is named for David Farragut (1801-70) , an accomplished U.S. naval officer, who received great acclaim for his service to the Union during the American Civil War (1861-65). Farragut commanded the Union blockade of Southern ports, helped capture the Confederate city of New Orleans and provided support for General Ulysses S. Grant's siege of Vicksburg.
