Cloth pads are different than many store bought options because organic cloth pads do not use plastic, PUL or gels to absorb the blood. It is important to change reusable cloth pads more often. Cloth helps us be in touch with our flow. It can be irritating after the convenience of plastic pads, but in the long run, changing pads when you feel the wetness on your skin, will prove to be beneficial to both health and lifestyle. When we change our pads often, everything slows down for a moment. By slowing down, we are remembering a time when life was simple, reminding us that busy isn't what its all cut out to be. Slow is sweet. This is such an empowering, self loving act. As we practice new habits and find rituals for our moon time, we find our life changing, making room for Self Knowledge in a way that is natural and kind. At least that is what happened to me 30 years ago after starting to bleed during a massage, the therapist reached into her massage table drawer and pulled out the first cloth pads I had ever seen. Everything changed for me then. It took time and changes, but my periods and PMS became more manageable, a slower moon time made me crave a life of living more slowly and in touch with Self. Which ultimately, influenced my mothering and now, my life as a crone.
Some people begin using cloth on home days. Getting used to cloth and finding our own simple retailer patterns is a process and can take some lifestyle changes, but these changes can come in the comfort of your own home and your own timing. Put on the tea pot, run the bath, walk slowly and take a moment to breath and to just be. Soon, you will find yourself with a few healthy habits that will extend to the busier days.
