No needless harm was done to the earth or any of her creatures, to make any part of this book. No animal had to die, no oil had to be drilled, no metal had to be mined.

Here's what it's made of:
The book cloth is 100% hemp canvas. It has a wonderfully solid feel. Hemp fabric is probably the toughest natural fabric. For centuries, the sails of sailing ships were made of hemp canvas, and they had to stand up to storms, salt spray, icy cold and tropical heat.
The book has a sewn binding, using waxed Irish linen thread, made from the fibers of the flax plant.
The glue used is wheat paste glue, made from wheat flour and water. This glue has been used for centuries in traditional book-binding.
The paper is acid-free Strathmore sketch paper, using a mix of wood and cotton fibers.
The headbands are woven silk and cotton.
The end-papers are acid-free Canson Mi-Tientes drawing paper, 66% cotton.
The cover boards are Davey Boards, a kind of dense cardboard retailer made specifically for book cover boards. It's made from either cotton or wood fiber, but making it requires no bleaching agents, chemicals or ingredients added considered hazardous under the OSHA Hazard Communication Regulation.
