I love the pattern in the flash in this Labradorite Freeform. The front of this piece is filled with yellow and blue flash. You can even see a tiny bit of purple! The backside has the blue and yellow as well - the yellow has a hint of orange. The colors on this one can appear a little muted in indirect light but in the sunshine or under a bright light, it really SHINES.
These photos were taken outside in direct sunlight- the colors have NOT been altered.
Approx. 3.5" x 1.75" x 2.825" tall; weighs 1.39 lb
*This piece has some natural fractures.
About Labradorite.....
Labradorite is plagioclase feldspar with a hardness of 6-6.5. Its name is derived from the Labrador Peninsula in Canada where it was first identified by Moravian missionaries in 1770. The rich display of iridescent color is called “shiller”. The shiller effect is caused by the scattering of light from thin layers of a retailer second feldspar that develops through internal chemical separation during the cooling of what was originally a single feldspar. It is found in Madagascar, Canada, Norway and Mexico. *All of our Labradorite is from Madagascar.
