DESCRIPTION: Original asymmetrical hand coiled ceramic vase with hand carved and slab built bright red poppy motifs and raised poppy seed heads contrasted with white daisy motifs. Delicate stems are scored into the piece and then later glazed with a brown oxide glaze. The pattern work on the vase forms two distinct scenes on the body of the vessel, which can be viewed from many angles. The pot is frost proof and water resistant and can be displayed indoors and outside in a sheltered location. The pot can hold water for flowers, or have soil and a plant placed inside. It is best to line the inside of the pot with a plastic bag or liner to keep the glaze work clean and to help remove a plant that gets to big.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT: The poppy design was originally used on just my vases, but as the popularity for this design increased, so did the range. The daisy can also be found on tiles, hares, clocks and as a separate little flower hanger.

SIZE: 18.5 cm high by 113 cm wide and the diameter of the hole at the top is 4.5 cm.

WEIGHT: 1.280 kg. Once this item is securely double packed it usually weighs just over 2 kg and will be sent out by Parcelforce 48 service in the UK.

COLOUR: Cream matt body with brown oxide details and red and white stoneware glaze features and a moss brown interior.

MATERIALS: Valentine's Grogged Stoneware fired ceramic to 1260 degrees.

RANGE: The vase range comes in a variety of sizes in either the daisy, poppy or both flower designs. Daises and poppy designs can also be found on the hares, clocks, dishes, hangers and plaque designs.

PLEASE NOTE: The listing is for one poppy vase that is shown in the first four images. Other designs and demonstrations by the artist Maggie Betley are shown in the other images.

METHOD OF CONSTRUCTION: The body of the vase is built using the coil technique and decorated with the hand modelled flowers and butterflies. The work is then left for up to three weeks to dry out fully before being fired in an electric kiln for a bisque firing at 1000°C. It will take another 24 hours for the kiln to cool down so that all the work can be emptied out and glazed. We make all our own stoneware glazes, which are dipped, poured, painted and sprayed on to our designs. Once glazed all the work goes back into the kiln for a second firing of up to 1260°C. This firing will fix the glaze permanently in to place and also make the piece frost proof and water resistant. From start to finish each large Zoo Ceramics design can take about a month to complete.

PACKAGING: Small parcels are gift wrapped and have attached a gift label and larger edition pieces are numbered and signed by the artist and come with a signed certificate. For insurance and customs purposes we always write Ceramic Giftware on our postage labels. We email you when item has been dispatched and provide tracking references if you have opted for this service and always obtain a proof of posting receipt. Buyer is responsible for any customs duties that may be due. In an effort to be environmentally friendly retailer we sometimes use recycled material, but it will always be clean and tidy.

POSTAGE AND DISCOUNT: Orders will be sent out from the UK by Royal Mail in secure double packaging by Second Class (unless you paid extra for First) or by International Standard post. Combined orders that go over £20 will go by Signed and Tracked services. Larger items weighing over 2 kg will be sent by Signed and Tracked Parcelforce services and listed as Free Post in the UK, which really means the postage is included in the price of the item. For all other areas an Estimate has been provided and you need to contact us with your location for a more accurate quote. P&P discount is available if you purchase several of our designs, which is automatically deducted from your total, excluding larger items that need to be packaged separately for safety. If we find that we are able to send small items in with the large parcel, we may be able to refund some postage.
