Small multi-purpose knife made from 1095 high carbon steel. This blade starts from an 1/8" wide flat steel bar which is then cut and ground to shape. The pin holes for the handle scales are drilled while the steel is still soft and then the blade is placed into the forge. Once up to temp (steel becomes non-magnetic around 1420F), the steel is quickly quenched in warm oil. This locks the molecular grain structure in place and creates a very hard, but brittle blade. Next, the blade is placed into an oven where it can soak for hours and trade its brittleness for toughness. Finally, the wood scales are attached, shaped, and coated with boiled linseed oil. The entire knife has been finished with 400grit sandpaper which provides a nice satin gloss level.
Listing is for one knife.
