Naturally Dyed Silk Ribbon ... GORGEOUS!!! 4 mm width - Alum Mordant, 15 colors, 4 yards of each color. This silk ribbon is smooth and sleek and pulls away easily from the pile, so don't worry about a tangled mess.
Silk absorbs the dye so handsomely, with rich intense color. Because each sweet little box is different, there are no substitutions in pack & ship. There is only one, as listed. Moms naturally dyed silk threads were in Piecework Magazine as an 'Editors Pick'. WOW!!!! If you are interested in other varieties, or the process or the projects, check out the website at www.thefeltingstudio.com, under the Naturally Dyed Threads tab.
In Vermont natural dyeing is done throughout the spring, summer and fall. Each season brings to life a variety of berries, mushrooms, ferns, lichens, flowers, sawdust and vegetables that all have their special colors to retailer offer. In addition, I purchase madder, cochineal and Indigo from places with warmer climates, in order to obtain a full range of colors. I dye cotton, wool, linen and many types of silk yarns for use in kumihimo, embroidery, appliqué, needlepoint and embellishing felt. Each type of fiber requires a specific mordant in order for the dye to adhere. The mordants I use are alum, tin, copper and tannic acid. Robin Russo
